Prop pitch setting sweet spot?

I have a 3-blade whirlwind ground adjustable prop on my ULPower 350iS/701 Sky Jeep.I started with a fairly steep prop pitch and have been gradually backing it off with less pitch. It “feels right” at this prop pitch setting and will climbout pretty steeply at ~2,900rpm WOT.I got these specs today with straight and stable flight at 40 deg OAT: 55mph@1930rpm, 3.0gph 65mph@2060rpm, 3.5gph 75mph@2250rpm, 4.2gph 85mph@2500rpm, 5.2gphUnfortunately, I didn't record the specs at the higher pitch…See More

I am looking at video cameras to mount (probably on the wing strut) on my 701. I have had a GoPro 3 for years. I now use it inside the cockpit and have had good luck with it, but want to add a second camera outside. I would like to be able to control it with my phone through WiFi or Bluetooth.Should I stick with the GoPro brand? (if so, are the new GoPro's much better than the 3 or 4?)What video camera are you guys using?Battery life?Likes/Dislikes?Suggestions?Thanks!P.S. In case you missed it,…See More

Pilot Controlled Lighting

Hey friends. I am needing a way to control and light up my strip for night landings. My runway is short, on an increasing uphill slope, and is definitely one-way. I am getting the lighting the way I want it, but need a way to turn it on from the plane. There used to be two companies that made simple PCL switches, but from my understanding, both have gone out of business.       http://www.hamtronics.com/r123.htmThe commercial companies want ~$2k,…See More

Airworthiness Directives

Are there any AD's for the Zenith 701/750 (or any of the Zenith's)? I am scheduled for Airworthiness inspection next Wednesday and while filling out form 8130-6, there is a box in Section III asking for Airworthiness Directives and the date of the last AD supplement.I asked Zenith and was told to check with the DAR/inspector.The FAA inspector said, "I recommend you view the FAA.GOV website to search for ADs on your aircraft at…See More

Engine Cowl and Mold construction

Hello all,I started looking for an engine cowl for my setup over a year ago and couldn't come up with a solution, so I am now in the process of designing and building my own engine cowl. (Zenith 701/ULPower 350iS) I know this is a bit of an odd combination, but it should make for a Hot Rod Sky Jeep...  :)I almost have the male plug ready for the next step (see attached picture), but I am a newbie and I have questions:*Is it worth the time and effort to build a female mold from this male…See More

Hi Jon, I have a new UL Power cowling, unwanted, and it looks nice. But don't get excited, I'm building a CruZer in South Australia! I was originally going for a UL i350, but switched to a Viking 130. I shipped a full plane kit and the UL cowl & engine mount as one to save on freight. As an exercise, I could take it's re-packaged dimensions off to the post office(or similar) and just enquire as to what it would cost to ship. It would be interesting. As it is, I may have to re-model the front bit of my Viking cowl, so your thread will be worth following. My email jheatheraus at gmail.com
