It is finally time to "finish" N701GV. Wittman regional is 1400NM in a straight line from KAWO.

That will be a bunch of flying.

Anyone have plans, or perhaps spare wheel pants that would fit a 701?

I will also be adding temporary strut fairings.

Back of the napkin match shows that every 5 knots gained removes about 1.5 flight hours for the trip.

Anything above a 10kt total gain is going to be endurance.

Add VGs to main wing and get rid of those slats ! I gained 8-10 mph in cruise (or reduce rpm to save gas) !

You could remove your L.E.slats, it does make a difference as we experienced with our 701. We averaged 65mph from Florida to BC with the slats on. After removal and installing VG's we certainly gained some speed, lost some STOL, but it's cruizing you are after. Best of all you can leave the brackets and VG's on and re-install your slats when you get home. Having done similar trips north of the line and counting on winds ...it's pretty simple: you loose everything you gained going east when you are coming back west :-) Sounds like a great trip, maybe we'll see you in Arlington just before.

Pray for a tailwind!!!

I'm at 36WI (118 naut. miles west of KOSH) if you need a place to stop before the final "assault".
