Rotax 912iS Sport Announced

Looks like there is a significant upgrade available for the 912iS. It is now called the 912iS Sport. A new airbox and software upgrade (plus a few other minor goodies) result in a higher torque curve. It looks like the parts are free for a limited time for those of us that already have the iS engine. Yay for Rotax! I'm pumped!…See More

Rotax 912iS Installation in Zenith Aircraft Information

Myself and 3 of my co CH750 builders have been planning to install the Rotax 912iS in our CH750s since the day that Rotax announced the release of the iS. Up to this point, there has been little information available so all of us have searched for scraps of info that can feed our hungary appetite for information. We talked to our (Canadian) Rotax distributor at Oshkosh and as luck would have it, they had bought a CH750 kit to install a 912iS and use as a demonstrator. That was great news for us,…See More

Polishing Your Airplane? Tell Us of All Your Procedures, Trick, Tips and Photos

A few Zenith builders have chosen to polish their aircraft rather than paint (including me). Many have posted some photos along with some tips. These are very valuable to those that trying to decide whether to polish or not and to those that have just began to polish their airplane. It is difficult to find all the posts that include these procedures. Let's make this discussion thread all things polishing. If you find this thread and have already posted something relevant to polishing an…See More

Trip Report #1

I really like reading trip reports, so here is my first trip report of hopefully many more. I have flown many cross country trips before but they were in my Beaver RX550 ultralight. This trip was the first long(ish) flight that we have taken with our CH601XLB. It was almost a year ago that Dave, Glen and myself bought this 601…See More

Thanks Joe, I have several years of two stroke experience with the 503 engine and am very versed in the tuning and maintenance. I honestly think that they are as dependable if not more than a certified four stroke if kept maintained properly,as I have seen my fair share of certified engines have trouble achieving 500 trouble free hours! I am happily content in my decision with the 582 install, and think it will perform quite decently in the 701. I say Thanks to You and Walt for the words of agreement with the two stroke engine!

Thank you , Joe. There seems to be some number of Canadians I should visit and justify the air ticket from Bangkok!
Last September, I visited a friend in New Zealand. He kept his 701 in his back yard hangar and could taxi right on to the grass runway. Great set up!

Keep the trip report coming. It's enjoyable. I build mine alone and make slow progress. Go see and fly other airplanes every once in a while help keep the build going.

Joe,  I am not trying to talk you out of buying my engine, but If you just need top end work on your engine you may be better off buying cylinders for your engine.  If you have bottom end troubles you will probably come out better buying a good serviceable engine.  If you bought mine you could use it as is and use the extra parts to overhaul your engine.  Then you would have a spare, or you could sell one of them and recoup some cost.  Let me know.  Mike H.

Are you guys fabricating the cages or are you buying them from Zenith?  Did you have any issues with mating the cage to the built up frame?  There is a plans builder in the forum section that had trouble getting everything lined up with the cage.

The Fuses look great.  A real milestone.
