Nylon fiber deburring wheel: cheap & works well

Started this discussion. Last reply by Dan Hill Jul 18. 5 Replies

Maybe it's due to supply chain issues, but where I live the 3M Scotch Brite silicon carbide deburring wheels are super expensive now ($230 each), so I decided to try one of the cheap nylon fiber…Continue

How to remove painted screws?

Started this discussion. Last reply by Bob Pustell May 13. 6 Replies

The upper wing skins over the fuel tanks in my 701 are held on with sheet metal screws. The plans call for rivets, which would likely be much stronger and lighter, but I guess the builder thought…Continue

DIY Finger Screen?

Nylon fiber deburring wheel: cheap & works well

Maybe it's due to supply chain issues, but where I live the 3M Scotch Brite silicon carbide deburring wheels are super expensive now ($230 each), so I decided to try one of the cheap nylon fiber polishing wheels that are available on Amazon.I bought a random 320-grit nylon wheel for my 8" bench grinder for $18 and I am quite pleased with the results.I haven't used a silicon carbide wheel before so I can't compare them, but at less than 1/10th the price, the "nylon" nicely deburrs and polishes…See More

Phone/Tablet Panel Mounts in 2022

There has been some discussion about tablet mounts here on the forum, but the posts I found are fairly old so I'm wondering what mounts people are choosing nowadays and what you like and dislike about them.I want to add a tablet to my instrument panel and after reading about various mounting options it seems like an articulating arm is preferable to a flush-mount because you can reposition the tablet to minimize glare, so that's the direction I'm leaning. I'm also looking for a permanent…See More

How to remove painted screws?

The upper wing skins over the fuel tanks in my 701 are held on with sheet metal screws. The plans call for rivets, which would likely be much stronger and lighter, but I guess the builder thought screws would make the skins easier to remove if he ever had to service the tanks. He thought wrong. Now I'm trying to figure out how to remove about 250 painted-over phillips head screws that are starting to rust. After fifteen minutes of effort I haven't been able to turn a single one.Does anyone have…See More

DIY Finger Screen?

I'm wondering if anyone has made their own fuel tank outlet finger screens. The regular ones appear to be nothing more than some brass mesh rolled into a cylinder that is then soldered into a NPT reduction fitting, and I could eliminate several other fittings in my fuel system if the finger screen was on something other than a reduction fitting... I don't want to be breaking new ground with my fuel system, but if this is something that people do regularly without it causing problems, that would…See More

In Search of used ELT

I'm looking for a cheap 121.5 ELT to replace one that was destroyed by leaky batteries (the previous owner never replaced them). An AmeriKing AK-450 would be a direct replacement, so that would be ideal, but I'm not picky.I've seen them as cheap as $50 on Ebay, but I'd be willing to pay more here... I figure you guys are more trustworthy :)Must be in working order. Thanks!See More

Fuel lines - rubber, Teflon, or aluminum?

It's time to replace my old rubber fuel lines and I'm considering switching to aluminum or braided steel/Teflon so I don't have to do this again in five years. Has anyone studied the merits of each hose type? Intuitively, the braided steel with Teflon seems like it would be the most crash/fire resistant, but at ten times the cost of the other options I'd like to see some data to back that up. I did a bit of searching online but couldn't find anything... I don't really know where to begin…See More

Hi Matt....not really active on the forum, but I do look at it occasionally. I am not too far away from you down here in the Seattle area. We have a small group of CH701s and 750s that like to go gravel bar flying. I added the canard flap just as a fun project, No issue I was trying to address or fix, but it turned out well and is a lot of fun. Message me your email address and I will send you a PowerPoint I put together explaining the project.

Matt,

Thanks for your solution for sealing the steering rods at the firewall.

Simple, ease to install on the engine side of the firewall and the price seems fair for an aircraft parts.
