First taxi test yesterday! Hey, I had to get to the fuel tank station! :D Wind was gusting to 30 mph per hour, nose was really light in that wind! She wants to go... bad! :) Massive thrust from the engine. 1500 RPM and the brakes barely hold on grass, it just starts to drag the locked wheels across the grass! 1700... not a chance. Long live the warp drive prop!
Did the compass swing, it's about 6-8 degrees off, but the mag compass sits in the panel. Did the Dynon as well. The Dynon EFIS is a joy to swing. Point it in the four directions, Push the corresponding button (N,W,E,S) wait 15 seconds then hit end, it calculates the variations and is spot on!!!
Put 12 gallons in each tank. Don't want to fill it to the top (15 gallons) for the first few flights. That was fun. AvGas is $2.00 liter here ($8.00 gallon) but I'll be switching to MoGas in one tank after a bit and only fill both tanks with AvGas during storage.
Had another AME buddy look it over (third one to look it over) and he found no issues, but we'll see what the inspector says, I've heard they are squirrely sometimes...
Still haven't heard back from the inspector, but I think he's on holidays!
Waiting sucks...
Looking good Mark.
No!! I don't think that a degree on the flaperons will hurt anything on that plane..-:)
Good job!
Awesome! Looks huge with that picnic table in the background.
Two days to get the flaperons adjusted!!! >:(
Probably the most hair-pulling job of the entire build! I got the throws to 11.5 degrees on each side, not pushing it any further. Two of my rod ends are at the limits, one more turn would make them out of safety. I doubt 1/2 degree will matter much given the size of these things...
Hoping for inspection sometime next mid-week depending on the inspectors schedule! :)
