Hi Robert only just seen your friend request from January because I had an old page with my old email address and my old 601XL In was not ignoring your communication but just not thinking that there would be activity on my old page which I now deleted Hope to see you one day I am at Bunbury and I now fly an 601XL-B (photo's on this site) Merry Christmas greetings Guido
Hi Bob, Although I live in WA, I live in Exmouth which is 1200km North of Perth. My 601XLB is also up here and I now have about 50 flying hours on it. I have yet get my Nav endorsment but hope to do it maybe next month. I have an EA81 as the power plant but would like something with a bit more grunt. But at least it flies! It is also very easy to fly. A great little aircraft.
Bob, I've been tweaking inlets, outlets and before I knew it, I had a new cowl. I'm currently working on a new cowl bottom that incorporates the ideas you mention to increase suction at the cowl exit.
To address the intake leaks, I'm using 4" (101.6mm) Scat for engine and oil cooling inlets.
Looks like we're running the same CHT temps, but I would like to get the center cylinders to run a bit cooler. I'm sure you're on the same path.
I'll do a blog once I get the new pieces installed.
The cooler on my plane failed because an oil line was hitting the cowling. Otherwise I have had good luck with the brand of cooler I have been using on my airplane. The cooler is made by Tru-Cool. It is a low-cost automotive-grade cooler. The cooler is black in color.
I also have a 601xl b with a Jab 3300 but with the ch650 canopy added. I am ready to paint and will do so before I start my engine for the first time to avoid contaminating the surface of the metal with oil residue. Check out my profile for pics and my kitlog website. http://www.mykitlog.com/ch601xl
Your plane looks very nice and I hope your first flight goes well. It looks like you have the Sensenich carbon ground adjustable prop like I have. Let me know what pitch setting are getting what rpm.
If you ever get the chance to visit the Zenith factory please take the time to stop by our builder assist facility too. We like to have visitors here and we are right here in Mexico, Mo. just a couple of miles from them.
Take care and good luck,

You can see a picture of the cooler here.
