First real result of the NTSB report

I was scheduled for a CFI-SP checkride tomorrow. I'm all ready for it. I've been boning up on all the stuff for the oral exam, which is reported to be a bear.

The DPE who I'd scheduled the ride with told me she wasn't comfortable flying in a Zodiac, and postponed the ride until the issue is better understood at minimum, and ideally resolved.

I understand and respect her decision.

I'm still annoyed, not at her, but at the whole situation. I've spent 6 months getting ready for tomorrow...and now, I don't know when I'll be able to finish the job.

Get her to read the NTSB letter, the Faa statement not to ground and the Zodiac anouncement on their website. Then have her read the Euro - Zenair AD on correcting Cable tension on the a/c. Simply increase the tension from 30 lbs +/- 5 lbs to 40 lbs on alerons. That is the fix. Meanwhile, people like these are trashing a great flying a/c. I have 300+ hrs on mine w/ never a flutter. Man up!

The AMD safety alert contains the required tensions and provides Zenair and AMD's position.

Has Zenith made any statements concerning this matter? I was also scheduled for a flight tomorrow and the fellow who I was to go with said he wanted to wait and see what the FAA was going to do. I asked the factory several months ago what the tension on the cables was supposed to be and they didn't give me an exact number, but just said to make it snug. Does anybody have that info?

That stinks Jay. Sorry to hear that.

The flight school where I learned to fly the zodiac has two of them. This morning they grounded both of them. They don't feel they can use them under these conditions. They are looking for another light-sport option. I hope this gets resolved quickly for all of our sakes. The prospect of not flying my plane for many months or perhaps years is not at all appealing.
