EAA One Week Wonder on Tour in Central Florida: March 2015

Here's a summary of my three days with the EAA One Week Wonder airplane in central Florida earlier this week.

On Wednesday, we flew by the shortest paved runway (a nice R/C field, just a few hundred feet long) and later that night I had the chance to fly over the longest runway I'd ever seen (NASA's shuttle landing runway at Kennedy Space Center, three miles long!).…

Zenith STOL CH 701 Air Drops help African communities grow...

Those who know what we do will remember that we are authorised to drop health education materials to rural communities using our specially modified, Rotax 912iS powered, STOL CH 701 aircraft.  As part of this we made the first ever aerial supply drops into the Afram…

Moving from trial to real project

About a year ago, after spending time investigating a number of options for kit aircraft, I decided to get the rudder kit from Zenith via the UK (South) agent Gary Johnson. It took me a long time to build the rudder through being busy with work and other interests, and having to acquire tools along the way. Recently I got to the stage of having the rudder completed and primed except for riveting the skins on; I took it to Gary, in his capacity as Inspector for the Light Aircraft Association…

1450A Pick Up Install in CH 750 Floats

I was a little apprehensive about drilling the elliptical hole for the pick ups through the upper skin in the proper location, to proper size and fit. Here's the method I devised which worked perfectly: (1) cut a 6" x 11" piece of aluminum from the scrap left over from trimming the skins, (2) Cut the elliptical hole in the aluminum to a perfect fit, (3) Trim the aluminum to match the borders of the pick-up plate, (4) sandwich the template in between the pick-up plate and the bulkhead and…

Sebring 2012: It was all about the trip!

Even though the 2012 Sebring U.S. Sport Aviation Expo (January 19 -22, 2012) event ended over a week ago, I only just made it back home from the trip this past Friday (and I didn't spend the week on the beach).  Following is a brief summary of the trip as well as some commentary on the planes and cross-country flying:…

Met with the FAA in the past couple of weeks and found some important info about the AirWorthiness Inspection!

First of all you may notice that we have skipped that past couple of Zenith Rudder Workshops while moving full speed ahead on the 3 projects that we had going here at once.

I am now feeling like I can see the light at the end of the tunnel to finish up my own plane. Although not complete yet, I thought it would be wise to begin checking with them concerning the registration and certification process.

Fortunately for me I had to be in Oklahoma City on business so I hand carried…
