Nitrous Oxide Kit on my Zenith CH750 STOL

I want to explain myself a little. I don't share my projects very well so I want to put it down here. Every plane can typically land in spots where it has NO chance of GETTING OUT. A 10 sec boost of…Continue

Nitrous Oxide Kit on my Zenith CH750 STOL

I want to explain myself a little. I don't share my projects very well so I want to put it down here. Every plane can typically land in spots where it has NO chance of GETTING OUT. A 10 sec boost of Nitrous to get me to 40 mph quicker is all that I am after, esp at max gross weight. I installed a single fogger nozzle wet nitrous kit that is really very simple in execution and all total weighs approx 20#. There are changeable jets at the nozzle to make it very customizable. Nitrous is NOT magic,…See More

Scary climb performance at max gross weight

I have had a great time working through my 40 hr Phase 1 testing. The performance of my Zenith CH750 STOL / Corvair 2.7 l is OK - not spectacular compared to my training in a C172 (but totally different plane). My Vy is right between 45 & 50 indicated - I rotate at 40 and climb out at 50 @ 500 fpm - good performance. My prop is a Warp Drive 2-Blade 68" ground adjustable that I set for a static rpm of 2850. Full power is close to 3000 rpm and I usually cruise at 2700. Cruise spped is right…See More

Carburetor Choices - Go With The TRIED & TRUE

I built my Corvair to WW specs but thought that an alternative carb was an attractive option. I test ran and flew with a Sonex Aeroinjector 35 initially, Like some I found it hard to tune and difficult to start in different weather conditions. My cable jammed on startup last week and quickly I was done with that crap. I installed a MA-3SPA carb the last couple days and I have never been HAPPIER! Today I flew with confidence - the new carb started perfectly, was responsive thru the whole range,…See More

Cleaning Tips & Tricks - from the "School of Hard Knocks"

I probably have tried just about every cleaning trick known to man and I think that I have come to "as good as it gets". When cleaning a 60 year old engine (I have disassembled and cleaned a half dozen Corvairs now) I think I have tried every soap, solvent and cleaner - always trying to find the easiest solution. WW recommends spending a couple hours with a pressure washer and your engine - NO FUN! It ALWAYS takes a little "armstrong" power but this is what I have found is the ultimate help:A…See More

EAA Amateur Built Certification Kit

Posted on March 6, 2019 at 2:47pm 0 Comments

For anyone just starting out or almost finished, I HIGHLY RECOMMEND the EAA's Amateur Built Certification Kit. It has all the forms, all the steps and all the right language to make getting your paperwork done correctly very easy. It also has good recommendations on the timing to send the various forms in. SUPER helpful!
