It will not fly at 18 mph TAS.  But it has a MUCH wider indicated airspeed range than the CH-750 STOL I flew for 400 hr.  That is the fun part.

Take it back up with a GPS, get it flying at 18 mph, have the GPS in the screen showing groundspeed, make a 180 degree turn, and prove it flies at 18 mph. Until then, its smoke & mirrors. Prove me wrong, I honestly would love to see it, & will eat crow if its true.

It was done by modifying to a more conventional wing.  Adding more area by going across the cabin, maintaining the streamlined lines by moving windshield forward, bringing the tail down into the prop-wash, moving the flaps behind the wing, reducing cooling drag / minimizing frontal area.  Also added full span vortex generators, streamlined doors and a powerful engine.

Wow! How is this accomplished? Reducing a lot of drag by maintaining lift? The wing area wasn't increased was it? Interesting.

Well, that was true then:

But we are now 10 mph slower than that post :)

Comment by Bryan Walstrom on September 1, 2015 at 10:33am

Wasn't this airspeed indication due to the high angle of attack and airflow into the Pitot? (previous post you made). Actual airspeed was more inline with Zenith's claims?

Viking CruZer fly slower than the CH-750 STOL
