I ordered the hinge and rivets from McMaster-Carr (best pricing I could find).

Hinge:

Product# 1582A245  Type 304 Stainless Steel Piano Hinge without Holes, .50" Thick, 2" Wide, 1/8" Pin Diameter, 8' Length. (Dave's plans didn't call out the pin diameter for the hinge and 1/16" seemed just to small so I went middle of the road with 1/8" I can report back after testing if this flexes too much or not).

Rivets:

Product# 97525A430   18-8 Stainless Steel Blind Rivets with 18-8 Stainless Steel Mandrel, Domed, 1/8" Diameter, .251"-.312" Material Thickness, Pack of 100

Thanks will look forward to those pictures, do have one last questions what hinge did you use, I know my local ACE hardware sells them, but do I need a special one for this?

Thanks,

Herschel

Here is the added length of steel in the middle for support. *Note, the long wide handle is shown "on-top" here, in Dave's plans it is mounted underneath. I positioned this on top temporarily for drilling purposes.

In Dave's plans he mentions "An 8' brake will do the ailerons". I am not sure if that is on the Sonex or the CH601/650 he was building, but if I was going to make the effort I wanted "options." So I built it 8' long. I did however add one length of steel in the middle to the handle to help spread out the lifting load. (I will post finished pictures here this weekend. All is apart for painting at the moment). Also. Expect to pay about $200 or more for all parts/supplies. And a few days of work.

How long did you make your brake?
