Roger - The best way to inform potential buyers that an item has sold is to go back to your original ad, edit the title , and add "SOLD" to the title. That way, when potential buyers search the ads, they will see that it has sold and not make a needless query. They likely won't see this "status" post.
The reason we prefer to add "SOLD" and not delete the ad is that it gives those either buying or selling some ideas for how to create their ad and also gives asking price information.
