I have finished my 701 and am getting ready for the DAR. I am now hoping to find someone that is flying a 701 that is willing to do some transition work with me. I have been flying since the early 60's, got my private in J-3s, owned a Yankee American for about 10 years, since then I have been flying Cessna's ususally the 150-152s but in the past was checked out in 172s.

My 701 has a Rotax 912s, Dynon 180, X-Com, Becker TP, and is backed up with a VSI, ALT, SI, TACH which are steam.

I live in the Harvard, Illinois area and presently fly out of Dacy AP (0C0).

If your interested in transition sharing please contact me at    nuts4sam@gmail.com

Thanks,

Tom Jackson

Alan, thanks for the vote of confidence. I may take you up on your offer to check the plane over before its first flight. As you said if anyone knows the 701 you do. I remember the beautiful job you did on your plane, which was a work of a craftsman. At this time the plane activity has come to a stop since we are preparing to head out for the summer but in the fall, when activity starts up again I'll get in touch.

Tom, my overall experience as you know was limited.  I did not do any transition training.  Instead I took the plane to DeKalb which has a huge runway.  I took off and flew 10 feet above the ground and set it back down about 30 times before I flew the pattern. Not sure if this was smart or not but that is what I did.  You really will be fine.  It is amazingly simple to fly. Any pilot can fly it so your general experience makes you well qualified.  Your first final approach should be high because when you do chop the power it will come down fast and not float.  But don't be in a hurry, wait for a low to no wind day.  I also suggest having a flight advisor or someone else there to keep you emotions and reasoning in check because no matter how much experience you have, that day is a tremendous roller coaster of emotions.  I would absolutely love to be there that first flight.  If you want I can also go through your plane in detail.  I'm not an A&P or have really any experience but I do know that darn 701 inside and out.  Let me know if there is any way I can help.  Alan
