I'm probably the last person to catch on, but I recently bought this Olfa P800 knife for trimming skin edges and it is fantastic. No more snips and scotch brite for me.

Have to thank plane builders for sharing their tips online and unwittingly guiding me to the right blade.

Yes Paul, it has to do with the angle but also the length your are trying to cut. i always make it in two or three sections if the piece is long. I find it works better that way.
I learnt about the Olfa knife angle technique from Robert Pelland..a scratch builder of 701/750.. i call him a sucker for pain....-:)
I use to have the same results has you before. The angle on holding the knife is very important to see the shavings that come off so easily. Short of a break ...it does a great job.

Andres, yes, I found that one key was to do a very small section at a time. If I tried a long piece it would require many more passes, but I wonder if this was more to do with the angle of the blade over a long stretch? But I was amazed what a great clean cut I got for the length of my skin. Thanks for the tip.

Yes Paul, it is an extremely useful tool for cutting aluminum as well. You will know when you have it at the correct angle when little curls of aluminum follow in front of the blade. Try it with a firm grip at 45 degrees angle. It's amazing how clean it cuts through with few passes. The angle is very important to have the most efficient cut. Otherwise the metal will not be extracted at the same rate and many passes will be required -:)
