CH-750 Parts Layout on 4 x 12 Sheets

What I am going to try to do here is generate a list of images of drawings I created in AutoCAD. All the major parts have been laid out for the CH-750 on 4 x 12 sheets representative of the 6061-T6 material needed to scratch build the 750. Most of the parts have been re-drawn from the 750 drawings and some of the more complicated parts have been represented as blocks on the sheets large enough for those parts such as the Cabin Side which is complicated but can be represented by a simple…

750 build thoughts

I have been helping a customer  build a 750

so far the fuse is almost complete , and it has been an enjoyable build , with all the new CNC parts and match drilling

I have had a few things that have come up and i thought i would share them

I know that the kit is fairly new and there is bound to be some little issues

on thing i have found was on…

N949TF "Foxy" First Flight

On Friday Morning February 11, 2011 at about 7:15 AM I took off for the first time in N949TF from St. Louis Downtown Airport (KCPS) using runway 12R.  My intent was to do a fast taxi, liftoff and touchdown and then go back for the actual takeoff.  Had a light tail/crosswind and when I lifted of I was uncomfortable with the drift and just firewalled it and climbed out.  Flew for between 45 min and an hour and the first landing was very nice.  I will post photos and the landing video.  Notice…

How many CH 750 are flying with the 912S

As mine and Robert Broadwells Rotax powered 750 project nears completion. I was wondering how many out there are flying with the 912S?

Thanks Bill

A tale of three airstrips

In West Africa light aviation is still massively under-utilised, yet in great need.  So, with the harmattan dust restricting our flight movements, and with Detective Erin Nolan from the NYPD on a visit, we took to the road to check out the airfields we hoped to 'stimulate' either back to use or to improve.  We scored 2/3 and get some very interesting tales to tell.…

Tailless 601XL-B, Hit from behind...

A beautiful day to fly, and then...

01/29/2011

On RWY36 at KBRL, 30yards from taxiway A2, a Cummingham Model 1 biplane struck the rear of my 601XL-B during landing and roll out.  The PIC of the biplane came straight in one hour before dark on a ferry flight.  The biplane was w/o radio and lights.  After entering the pattern, calling my positions &…

50 Hrs On My 601XLB

I have 50 hrs on my 601 since the upgrade. I like it more and more. Have done some short cross countries with my wife and she just loves flying and taking picutures. The lycoming 0235C1B is running great with the addition of the Rotex throttle body carb. coupled with the E-Mag electronic ignition the engine starts instantly.I keep pushing the envelope on manuvers and the 601 responds great. The attached photo was taken by my wife over the cranberry marshes at harvest time near Tomah Wi.… Continue

701 Side Slips?

Still making progress on the slats for my 701.  These special STOL surfaces have got me thinking about short field techniques.  My past Maule and Champ were both great STOL performers.  The Maule used 50 degrees of flap to get in short fields, the Champ used side slips.  I preferred the side slip as it was easy to put in and take out to adjust the descent.

Have any…

Rudder Workshop and Demo Flight

After the January workshop I am now the proud parent of a bouncing baby rudder! It may not be cosmetically perfect, but I would be willing to fly with it.  I learned a lot at the workshop, and had a chance to fix some mistakes w/o it being a disaster.  The basic skills were easy to pickup, and it was helpful to have the Zenith folks nearby for questions. I pretty much feel like I can build a Zodiac 650B.  The biggest challenge is probably clearing & heating the garage and setting up a…

Phoenix Flight

The story of the phoenix bird that loves fire came to mind today.

For the first time this year, we were able to fly - circuits and very local, but operational. Safety procedures are essential when you have been on the ground for an extended period, as has happened this year.

Our in house regulation is that 'if you have not flown for 28 days you…

Flanging Dies

After calling numerous shops in my area, I finally found a place willing to make the 4 flanging dies needed for plans-building. The shop wants $1,000 for 4 dies. I'm not sure what I was expecting, but this seems way too high! At that price, I'm better off buying sub-kits!
