Standby for Pilot reports.

Now flying as a Sport Pilot and I like it!
The less FAA in my life, the better......
Pictured you see the "old style" fuel sending unit location. Located on top instead of the tank end. I wish I would have known about this location BEFORE I cut into my tank ends.
I had mucho problemos with the sending units and had to remove and reinstall at least five times. It was a real pain to get my fat hand in the lightening hole to remove the senders....
Then on this site I saw someones senders on top of the wing.....Zenith did this years ago...
Actually it was an easy job to change it to a top location. Now when I need to service the senders, I lower the fuel to about half and open the top cover plate (pictured).
If, Ha Ha, I ever build again, I WILL install them on top in the first place.....

Hi Steve
I started making aluminium ram air ducts at first because I didn't like how mine glass ducts fitted. I figured out that I was not actually achieving anything with this method so I stopped wasting aluminium and started making a fence cooling system. All of the baffles are removable and once I have it all working and refined, all things going well, I plan on marketing the kit for a reasonable price. Yours will be cheap my friend and I hope you help me get the word out about my kits. I may be jumping the gun a bit so we will keep the marketing side of it pretty quiet at the moment. I will keep posting pics and please keep posting your opinions.

Regards
PHILL

Struggling with how to respond via my iPhone. I'm trying to find out about the history of my recent purchase. To answer your questions.. I will not be using the EA-82 although it looks like it's had a fresh rebuild. I thought I might be able to restore this plane but it looks more like a major rebuild.

Steve, when my plane was new I had issues with the engine quitting on final. Never could get the idle adjusted right for this. Turns out on my plane the idle stop on the carb was bending. My solution was a simple one. I added a b-nut to the cable. Now when I pull back on the throttle the b-nut contacts the outer cable and provides a positive stop. Its been working perfectly for almost three years. Here is a picture. Its a "down" view. The carb is just out-of-picture to the lower-right. The arrow points to the b-nut. The throttle is at idle in this picture.

Hello Steve,

I have my pants off now... err my plane that is. Two out of three had cracks in them. They are being fixed and will go back on. The plane looks much better with them on. Looks aside pants are pointless and a hassle. 12 pounds seems like a lot, are you sure they weight that much? Anyway I fly by myself most of the time so 12 pounds is OK.

Wheel pants add much more weight when they are full of mud, insect nests and become home to snakes, lizards, spiders and more - they also make inspection of the gear more difficult when out in the bush.... BUT if operating from tarmac and living in a non-hostile environment, look good and add a knot to the cruise... I doubt that helps... but you did ask...

Rolfe

What numbers did you get with the datum out past the tank.
I did the same as you at 1033 mm.

and thats very not every,,,,,,,,,,,,Duh!

But, But...................all 601XLs have forward sweeping wings.

If you used the every wing tip as a datum, then the math works out the same.....
You just have a bigger number from datum to main wheel axle and a smaller number from datum to nose wheel axle.......

W x A = M

Hello Steve
Thanks for responding to the weight and balance question. Due to the foreward sweep of my wings, the CG does change if measured from different points on the leading edge so I used the rib outboard of the tank and calculated it in %MAC instead of the listed mm measurements. Rolfe
