Thrust line on 601

I had a "mishap" hard landing with my 601 and need to do some repairs to the firewall area. When I removed the engine a Viking 110, I noticed bushings on the bottom two mount 3/8 inch thick. With bushings the bolts are barely long enough. This would have raised the thrust line somewhat.Does any one else have this and if I remove them what will be the handling difference?ThanksSee More

At the front it is nice and tight thanks to new seal from Zenair, the sides are flush with the fuselage except at the rear, about at my shoulder the canopy bows out about an inch. I have…See More

Length of nose strut

I have an older 601. On landing it "slams" down on the nose wheel. On takeoff it takes a hard pull to get the nose up and then it over rotates causing an interesting series of gyrations.I had a post previously and a reply staTed they installed a longer nose wheel strut.I installed the Eggenfelner spring and it doesn't appear normal. Also, on landing and taxi the main gear feels very stiff. I have never seen the top plate move, is this normal? Thanks for your help.RaySee More

Just started flying 601HDS

I bought the aircraft a yr ago and after lots of upgrades I am now flying.I have 1500 hrs in 20 types so thought not a Bob Hoover I do have some comparison.I am having trouble with the takeoffs. My airspeed is way off, is showing a 30 mph stall which I am very skeptical about. That is being corrected. So I am rotating at 50 which is probably 70 and even very gentle pull gives me a rapid nose up and a hard slew to the right.I know the, the prop turns backward so I am unlearning the right rudder…See More
