Only once did I find myself at a remote airport wanting to return home early in the morning during winter with a thin sheet of ice covering my plane. It doesn't even get below freezing very often in the area where I was located, so I was surprised to find myself in this position. I keep a spare car at this airport so I drove to an Ace Hardware store (had to wait 30 minutes for it to open), and bought several cans of windshield deicer which did work.

I would like to get a garden type sprayer and keep it in the car, and have it filled with deicer.

Could some of you cold weather pilots suggest a deicer I could use in the sprayer ? I found a couple formulas for homemade auto windshield deicers (rubbing alcohol and water), but not sure if that would be acceptable.

Thanks,
