Not a recommendation but a related question-after researching the FAR my conclusion is that the ELT is truly the only piece of avionics one must buy to fly, is that your understanding as well?
Yes Jim I think you are right
I have an Ameri-King AK-451 ELT. It seemed like a good choice when I bought it, but with the problems they had with the FAA this spring I would consider an other brand if I was buying now.
For the radio and transponder my criterias were mostly price, weight and panel size.
I have a Sandia Aerospace STX-165 transponder. Works great and easy to install with the build in encoder.
I use a Flightline FL-760 radio. Works very well for communications but the built in intercom is not that good and the music input is mono. I heard good feedbacks about the MGL V6 but it was not available when I bought my avionics.
Thanks Francois I have been looking at artex 345 and the ACK E-04 ELT but they each need an out side GPS source
I think they accept GPS input but can be used without it. At 406 MHZ the precision is pretty good.
