yes, we worked long distance together to get the components on line.

Terrence, did you install a Hella starter relay like we have in our circuit?

Comment by Glenn Davis on March 8, 2020 at 8:11pm

Just like Terry, I had the small wire in the harness labeled for the solenoid.

Yes, I have the starter relay which confirms you need a larger wire to the solenoid than is provided.

Glenn, are you using a starter relay, or is the solenoid going straight to the ignition key?  Ours has 14 AWG between the starter relay and solenoid.

i looked at my wiring diagram and I have 4-6 gauge aircraft grade wire from positive buss to starter and small Viking 130 wire in harness to starter solenoid.

Loren,

I don't remember the size 20-22 maybe. I replaced it with some 12 that I had on hand. My first impression of the break was that it was a fatigue crack . No way of knowing what caused it but just to be safe I replaced the wire.

Well, that didn't work

Glenn, what size wires? Attached is our electrical schematic showing wire size.https://scontent-sea1-1.xx.fbcdn.net/v/t31.0-8/s960x960/27913008_56...

sounds like I had a different type of starter failure.,Mine went from working perfectly to not at all.Upon disassembly I discovered the copper coil had separated. I repaired it and it failed again at the previous repair. I suspected the problem might be a voltage drop due to small wire size to the starter solenoid .Viking sent a replacement and I replaced the wire. Problem free since

Starters rarely fail. Any idea why this one failed?
