Wagner HVLP Control Spray Plus Paint System

Here is my new Wagner HVLP Paint Spayer System.  Great Spray Gun - can be used with all kinds of paint such as Waterborne Epoxy Primers, and Waterborne Polyurethane etc.  There are some pretty expensive systems out there... but this was to good to pass up!   Paid $75US from Gleam Paints.  Runs off of 110V and feather light.   Princess Auto had one for $130 from China and it just could not compare to the Wagner.  I had a Wagner electric spray gun back in the 80's and it was one super unit but a little on the heavy side!   Once you get to using it and get it setup properly for the paint you are using... it is basically set for good, no further adjustments!   I huge benefit with the HVLP is there is hardly any overspray...  which is wasted paint, and with the price of some paints now a days... WOW!

Hi Ron:

Glad to hear the motor part of the Wagner spray gun is separate from sprayer.  No doubt it will probably have little or no vibration.  I'm not expecting a professional paint job, you know slick, shiny and smooth;  simply because a 750 pointed straight down full throttle probably will not exceed VNE. I just want it yellow.

The price is right so I may consider this unit myself one day if you are pleased with the results.  Brian

Hey Brain

I don't know off hand yet... I had a Wagner years ago and it was heavy and vibrated somewhat..  It was a really good unit once you got it all setup.  This gun is feather light... the whole system is only 7.8lb, and that includes the turbine and both containers.  There should be no vibration... keep in mind that the old Wagner spray guns included the electric motor and was quite heavy! There should no difference then a regular gun.

Hi Ron:

Does it vibrate much?  Used a Wagner years ago for two hours.  My hand got so numb I had to drink with the left for two days. Kept dropping 'em!    Brian

G'Day Norm...

No I just got it.  The spray can be 1 " to 12"... 3 settings horz. vrti. and round!   Norm it does not matter if you use a regular gun or a HVLP viscocity must be determined.  You have to do some practice spraying with it.  It also depends on the type of paint you are using... some of the regular guns leaves bubbles whenusing water based paints and from what I was told it does not happen with the HVLP!  One huge benefit is the overspray is reduced by about 40%.  This is huge when dealing with the finer based paints which can leave a fog while painting.  There was a writeup in the RAA magazine on 2 guys in Toronto that painted ther planes with the one that they got from Princess Auto... and they did pretty well. One used a water pased latex.  They said the key was to keeping the unit clean.   I don't know if this applies to the Wagner HVLP system.  I did a bit of research looking at the different units but they were quite expensive.  I also had a chance to go to Princess Auto to check theres out.  You see the units that the 2 guys from Toronto were from Princess Auto... but not the junk China units that they are flogging now.  I found the ones that they got and they were from the UK... inquired in buying one then.  They were over $200 then... but they were also 220 volt, which was no good here.

So when I seen this one that a guy used to paint his plane using System Three waterborne paints...

waterborne Epoxy Primer, and their waterbornePolyurethane... I jumped at for the price alone.  He had painted his other KitFox with a - Axis Citation HVLP spray system... which cost huge.  He purchased it... painted his KitFox and then sold it because of the cost.  He indicated that the Wagner did just as good a job!

I can;t wait to start using it!  One other nice thing is you don't have to use a compresssor which can contribute problems to painting if you are not a pro!

Like any spray gun you have to determine the viscoscity of the paint that you are using.  The System Three Waterborne paints work pretty good with this gun.

Hi Ron,

Tried it yet ??? I have a HVLP paint gun but haven't come around to try it yet. It's the normal type that you plug on a air compressor... How thick can your gun spray ?? Do you have to dilute the paint much ? How much overspray does it do ??? What precautionary measure do you take for not spraying evrything else in the hangar ???

Regards,
