This is my first attempt at making a cyclonic breather. Made from a 5/16 metal fuel filter. Removed the filter.

Whacked a ball brng into the bottom half to form it more funnel shaped. Silver brazed together.

I plan to route the vent hose up and over the engine mount.

It might work, but I may have the rotation backwards for the northern hemisphere!

So far so good! I have run the engine several times, no evidence of oil coming from breather. Admittedly, I have not made any high power runs. Will continue to monitor.

Dan, The breather hoses on my engine came from viking with a brass tee installed between the oil tank and a cover plate under the starter (as shown above). I removed the brass tee and installed my breather in it's place, the idea being the elimination of the catch tank. I will report it's effectiveness after testing.

I recall my old Cessna w/Cont 0200 having a cyclonic oil/air separator. This was my inspiration.

FYI, while researching, I found that modern Land rover diesels have cyclonic separators.

Hi Steve,

Is that tee in the vent line something new?

On mine, the vent tube goes over the engine and down into a container on the firewall.

Why the tee? And where does the tube now go?
