This is just a pre-fit of the cowling, I want to judge if I need to install a spacer or not for the prop that is on order.

I have been asked on several occasions where to plane a taxi light on the STOL series, this is typical of the light I use and the placement. I install lights in this location as I have found that a nice streamline light reduces the drag of the upper strut attachment. Plus it seems to work the best for lighting the way. I have used both H7 halogen and Xenon bulb styles in this location. Both types of lamps can come in a similar housing, the HID lamp is definitely brighter and almost impervious to vibration that can affect the halogen bulb, but the cost of the Xenon option is 5 times that of the halogen counterpart. I have looked at LEDS for this use, but night tests still show that the super bright LEDs are still lacking behind the Halogen choice.
