I am putting together a Zenith 801 with the Viking 180hp turbo engine. I have built a custom nose cone for my engine and could make more of them if people are interested.

Originally I was going to install the Lycoming cowl, but it would have needed a lot of modification, so I designed and built my own nose cone, then attached it to the firewall with cowling supports in all four corners. With removable side, bottom and top panels I have access to most everything on the engine and don't need to take the propeller and nose cone off for routine maintenance.

I am using the DUC 5 blade propeller with the 4 inch flange extension, but this nose cone may fit other props. You would need to design and fit the cowling to your particular firewall.

This nose cone should produce less drag than using the Lycoming cowl, which has 2 big inlets for engine cooling that you really don't need with this engine.

The nose cone has an extra bulge on the right side for the air filter, so it isn't symmetrical on the top. It is hard to see in the pictures. I decided it might look a little goofy with same extra bulge on the left side. Too bad the air filter is located where it is, it would look just right with the left side curve on the right side.

It is epoxy and woven fiberglass cloth, 3 layers (plus the thinner skin coat). It has Duratec primer instead of gelcoat, so it can be scuffed and scratched while installing, then sanded and painted.  (Notice the marks on mine when I dropped it immediately after taking it out of the mold when it was slippery from the wax, I'll try not to do that again.) Weighs about 5 or 6 pounds.

Let me know if you are interested. It will take me a week or two to lay it up. My email is emj62@msn.com
