I am Installing my mixture bracket per the Homebuilt Help Video, I need to attach part of the bracket to the threaded stud that attaches the carb spider. My issue is that I will not have enough threads left after the 1/8” bracket is installed with the lock washer and nut.

I am considering using a slim nut so I have enough threads. Or I may cut the 1/8 aluminum bracket short and install a 1/16 steel extension to give me more threads.

Is it ok to use a slim (short) nut?

Does anyone have any ideas?

Check this out, not my plane. But O200 in a Cruzer.  Just attached differently than what you're contemplating I think.

Another pic...

Hi Don, I have thought about that as well and that may be the way I end up going. My first thought is that I would want to keep it off the tube and have a more secure mounting position, I am curious to see how popular that method is.

I am not completely familiar with the install you are attempting but in general, the AN364 low profile nut can replace the AN365 stop nut as long as the load is primarily in shear.  From your picture, this looks to be the case, and I think you could do that.  Another alternative would be to use an AN960-(x)L washer instead of a standard AN960-(x) which would give you an additional 1/32.  Yet another option would be to trim down the round spacer that fits over the stud by the amount needed to allow the stud to protrude adequately. I think you could use any of these techniques, or any combination of them to accomplish your goal.

Thank you for the info Daniel, I will be ordering that hardware and see what I can do with it. I see you have Knoxville listed as your home area, I am in Oneida, Scott County. It's nice to see a local Zenith enthusiast near me.

Good luck with the mods.  I didn’t realize you were just down the road from me.  I’m  based at TN98.  Always happy to talk about airplane building!  I sent you a PM with my contact info.
