I've downloaded and unzipped but the installation manager wants a serial number. Where do I get that or what am I doing wrong?

After filling out the SolidWorks form on the EAA site to download the software, you will receive an email from EAA titled "SOLIDWORKS Download Instructions" with the following instructions:

Instructions on downloading the software:

  1. Go to the SOLIDWORKS Student Design Kit – EAA Maker Edition registration and ...
  2. EAA is considered an educational institution for this program. Please enter the following in the form (Please Note: the License ID is a unique ID, do not share it or your access to the software may be inhibited):
    • School License ID, SDK-ID or SEK-ID: xxxEAA
    • Are you a: Student
    • School Name: EAA
    • School Type: Other
    • Major: Other
    • Month of Graduation: January
    • Year of Graduation: 2025
    • Version: 2016-2017
  3. Download SOLIDWORKS - When you complete the form, you will receive access to a page to download the software. You will also receive a unique activation key via email. Do not share this key with anyone as it may inhibit your access to the software. To activate the software, you will need to enter the 24-digit activation key (received via email) in the online form fields provided.

If you need further assistance, please visit the EAA SOLIDWORKS Resource Center at EAA.org/SOLIDWORKS

Can someone advise what do you type for the school license ID?

Please disregard my last question.  I had misunderstood that filling out the form was a different step that had to be completed before completing the download.   I just read it wrong.   I now understand that the 3digit code is emailed to you after completing the form.

Hi,

Is it possible to get a access to a solid works model of the 601 or 650?

Steven

For the serial number, you should be receiving a second email with the serial number (the first email had the link to the download).  It's addressed from EducationDept@solidworks.com.  You may want to check your spam folder for this (that's where mine was).

Yeah, in gmail mine was in the spam folder. Make sure you mark it as not spam. If enough people do that Google will reclassify that for those that follow us :-)

Hi Sebastien,
Any idea when (and where) the Cruzer solidworks files will be available to builders?

Cheers,
..lance

We've uploaded a working 3D model here:

http://documents.zenith.aero/3d-solidworks-model.html

Please give us your feedback!

I managed to open it in the eDrawing viewer on Windows 8.  That app doesn't work on Win 10, and the Mac and iOS versions won't open 3dhtml.

I did install solidworks, but couldn't open the 3dxml either.  Probably need to import it somehow from what I can see.

However, it looks GREAT in the eDrawing viewer on Windows 8!!

Works fine on Windows 10 for me.

There is a separate download of the viewer - but that's not supported on Windows 10 - its actually older.  The stuff that comes with the Solidworks download is supported on 10.  I guess I wasn't totally specific there!

Kind of cumbersome to view and manipulate in EDrawings but being able to view in 3D is invaluable, especially to those of us building from scratch.

I think it’s fantastic you released it, many thanks!
