Here's Part Two of our Road Trip, driving the Zenith cargo van to Florida from the Zenith Aircraft kit factory in Mexico, Missouri, to deliver kits, visit with Wheels & Wings in Lake City (Florida), deliver our last kit, host a hands-on Zenith workshop at Sun 'n Fun in Lakeland, attend the "public debut" of the Spirit of Lakeland aircraft and take in the Central Florida Classic National STOL competition where two Zeniths competed!
Whew! Busy and productive yet fun trip!

Road Trip, Zenith-style

Zenith Aircraft's Sebastien Heintz and his son Calvin embark on a road trip South to Florida from the Missouri factory in their cargo van. They loaded the van with Zenith aircraft kits which they delivered to customers along the way, making their way to Lakeland, Florida, to host a Zenith hands-on workshop class and for the Sun 'n Fun Holiday Fly-In Festival and National STOL competition (in early December 2021), coming up in Part Two of this video.

Normally, Zenith aircraft kits are crated and shipped by common carrier (truck) for the Zenith factory in Mexico, Missouri to the customer's home. A typical full kit will be crated in one box, 14-ft L x 4-ft W x 3.5-ft H, weighing approx. 1,000 lbs. (including the wood crate). Alternatively, customers can pick up their kit at the factory, either uncrated or crated (in the big wood box), and haul the kit back themselves. Note that component kits (or smaller section kits) can also be ordered and shipped (or picked up). Of course, individual parts can also be ordered and shipped.

With the Zenith cargo van, the kit is not crated but hand packed on the shelves inside the van (smaller parts are boxed together and larger parts are wrapped in paper for protection). At the customer's home, the parts are unloaded by hand.

Group Build: Zenith Aircraft Kit Airplane

EAA Chapter 40 (San Fernando Valley, California) recently got started building their Zenith CH 750 Cruzer airplane. The airplane is being built from a Zenith kit together with area youth and volunteer mentors. EAA Chapter 40's Bill Berle explained: "Well, after a bunch of unexpected delays and pandemic-related bumps in the road, our Zenith Cruzer build began Saturday… and it was a complete HOME RUN success. ...We had a group of a dozen kids and their parents come out to start the first wing trial assembly. The fantastic part is that we met the very first goal perfectly – by the end of the first three-hour session, the kids were holding a clecoed wing skeleton up above their heads smiling, and it looked like an airplane wing.
"We’re off to a fantastic start, and we hope you’re as thrilled with us as we are with the Cruzer and with Zenith Aircraft."
