<p>Earlier this month I participated once again at the Great Alaska Aviation Gathering in Anchorage, and visited with area Zenith builders and flyers. <p>Earlier this month I participated once again at the Great Alaska Aviation Gathering in Anchorage, and visited with area Zenith builders and flyers. The day after the show I went flying with <a href="http://www.zenith.aero/profile/BillWilcox" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Bill Wilcox</a> in his <a href="http://www.zenair801.info/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">STOL CH 801</a> that he built 15 years ago.</p>
<p><a href="http://storage.ning.com/topology/rest/1.0/file/get/2231379811?profile=original" target="_self"><img src="http://storage.ning.com/topology/rest/1.0/file/get/2231379811?profile=original" width="750" class="align-full"/></a></p>
<p>Following are five videos from a great day of flying. In the first video I talk with Bill about flying in Alaska and about his Zenith STOL: Bill explained how his 801 meets his needs for flying in Alaska. </p>
<p><iframe width="750" height="422" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/avZMBs93iLw?rel=0&controls=0&showinfo=0&wmode=opaque" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen=""></iframe>
</p>
<p>These additional videos are mainly unedited footage, taking off and landing on Alaskan beaches, enjoying the spectacular scenery: During this video we are flying along the<span> western shores of Cook Inlet in south-central Alaska. The lodge that you see is called Silver Salmon Creek Lodge and is known for 30 to 40 Brown Bear viewing a day when the Salmon are running.</span></p>
<p><iframe width="750" height="400" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/eRyMHHN2XIg?rel=0&controls=0&showinfo=0&wmode=opaque" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen=""></iframe>
</p>
<p>We are taking off from Kalgin Island just off the coast of Cook Inlet. On this island there are no predators to worry about when you're hiking on the beach looking for treasures like Japaneses glass floats.</p>
<p><iframe width="750" height="422" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/6HmDjeRUgxU?rel=0&controls=0&showinfo=0&wmode=opaque" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen=""></iframe>
</p>
<p>You will notice several cabins along the beach. These cabins are used during the summer for salmon fishing by the locals. </p>
<p><iframe width="750" height="422" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/N9oY7AgfjSQ?rel=0&controls=0&showinfo=0&wmode=opaque" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen=""></iframe>
</p>
<p>When you're flying in Alaska it is very important to have a second plane for safety, and to share your stories with a friend. Notice the small book in the window. It is a book with all of the Alaska Tide times. Very important if you are landing on beaches in Alaska.</p>
<p><iframe width="750" height="422" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/HmObgb4SzcM?rel=0&controls=0&showinfo=0&wmode=opaque" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen=""></iframe>
</p>
<p>The best part of my job is visiting with customers and going flying in their Zenith Aircraft that they have built. If you have a chance to go to Alaska, the best way to view it is from the air in a Zenith Aircraft.</p>

<p>Older STOL CH701's used pieces of radiator hose as spacers. I recommend changing them to the new polyurethane spacers with are softer and which will stay in place better.</p>

<p><span style="font-size: 13px;"><span>Mt. Eagle Escape is nearly completely surrounded by water, and is at </span><span>the 67 mile marker of the Lake of the Ozarks, a superb recreational lake in south-central Missouri. </span></span>The west end of the Lake of the Ozarks is a excellent fishing area.</p>

<p></p>
<p>We went on a hike the first morning and I noticed this large track. I believe it is a Mountain Lion paw print (I'm glad we didn't find out for sure!)</p>
<p><a href="http://storage.ning.com/topology/rest/1.0/file/get/2231438529?profile=original" target="_self"><img width="750" src="http://storage.ning.com/topology/rest/1.0/file/get/2231438529?profile=RESIZE_1024x1024" width="750" class="align-full"/></a></p>

<p><span style="font-size: 13px;">On Saturday we took some friends flying to give them a nice view of the area from the air: This was her first flight since she was 7 years old!</span></p>

<p>The takeoff distance was 150 feet with two on-board and up hill on grass on a hot day!</p>

<p><span style="font-size: 13px;">It is such a beautiful area with all the trees around us.</span></p>

I'll post photos and videos of this separately.</p>
<p>Following is a brief summary of the open house activities with photos:</p>
<p><a target="_self" href="http://storage.ning.com/topology/rest/1.0/file/get/2231411173?profile=original"><img width="750" src="http://storage.ning.com/topology/rest/1.0/file/get/2231411173?profile=original" class="align-full"/></a>Mr. Detrick Alkonis from Paramount, CA getting ready for QSP open house after camping under his 701 wing. <p>There were about 300 that attended the Open House. The weather was perfect for flying and talking about airplanes.</p>
<p><a target="_self" href="http://storage.ning.com/topology/rest/1.0/file/get/2231427452?profile=original"><img width="750" src="http://storage.ning.com/topology/rest/1.0/file/get/2231427452?profile=original" class="align-full"/></a></p>
<p>There were 18 Zenith Aircraft that made it to the Open House ...from the <span style="text-decoration: underline;"><a target="_blank" href="http://www.zenithair.com/zodiac/index1.html">CH 601 HD</a></span> to the new <a target="_blank" href="http://www.zenithair.com/stolch750/index.html">CH750</a> aircraft. It is so nice to see so many different Zenith aircraft models gathered together at the open house.</p>

<p>Mr. Andre Mirek with his CH701, what a neat paint scheme. He finished his 701 at the end of 2007 and received his Sport Pilot License in his new 701. He has about 200 hours in his STOL CH 701.</p>
<p><a target="_self" href="http://storage.ning.com/topology/rest/1.0/file/get/2231444201?profile=original"><img width="750" src="http://storage.ning.com/topology/rest/1.0/file/get/2231444201?profile=original" class="align-full"/></a></p>
<p>Jim Dickerson from Ukiah, CA with his CH 750, with the Cont. 0-200. About two years ago Jim was flying his Cessna 182 and wanted to land in every state. He stopped for the night in Mexico, Missouri and was stuck the next couple of days due to weather. I showed Jim the 750 aircraft... and the rest is history.</p>
