Flying with Roger Dubbert

Posted on March 11, 2011 at 2:18pm 6 Comments

I completed the first flight of N701YB today.  All went well and it was a great experience.  I was able to perform the first flight with a lot of confidience because I spent 5 hours flying with Roger Dubbert in the Zenith 701 factory demonstrator last Sunday.  I would recommend to anyone who does not have time in type to fly with Roger before you make your first flight.  The CH701 demonstrator fly's great and I was able to get a good feel for how a 701 should fly.  Roger showed me some… Continue

Great looking plane. !!! Congratulations. May I ask what size metal brake you used or is needed to scratch build the 701? Thanks, Jeff

My buddy Bob Stuarts (he did the welding on my ski axle supports) plans built CH701 passed his MDRA inspection last week. It took him 14 ys to complete the project.

Thanks Tim. those photos were when I was building a 701. I got rid of that project a while back and recently bought the plans to the 750 which I also intend to scratch build. I like the 750 because of more engine options. I have a guy making me a 10 foot metal brake now and hope to get started in a few months after we move to a bigger place.

Your 701 looks fantastic!! Anyone can build from a kit but it is much more satisfying to scratch build.     Thanks for the comments.

Thanks Tim. I'll look at alternative routing when I attach my wings.

Thanks Tim. There has been discussion about possible fuel starvation in a steep dive. I'm thinking that the standard routing which takes the fuel lines into the trailing edge of the wing might not be such a good idea. Do 701 plans call for the routing you implemented, or do they show them running into the trailing edge, like the 750?

Hi Tim,

Did you run fuel lines into trailing edge? Did you check for gravity feed in a steep dive?
