Successful First Flight N8701W CH701

Posted on September 13, 2010 at 7:57am 12 Comments

Yesterday morning weather was good so made the first flight with my 701. I had never flown a 701 before or a plane with a joystick. The angle of attack at take off surprised me a little so the take off was a little sloppy. Flew for 45 minutes remaining over the Rushville IL airport. All temps stayed in the green and everything was looking good. I had to make some adjustments on the flaperons, when I landed, because I had to hold the stick pretty hard to the right to maintain a level flight… Continue

What I was saying yesterday was that when I laid the completed slat on the flat table I got a wobble across two corners. Probably 5-7 mm full deflection and I am thinking that the slat supports will correct it as it will flatten if I press down on the slat . Since you didn't have any deflection, I am going to try assembly in a different order. I will cleco it to the wing today to see if the deflection goes away.

Came over to Rushville last week in the Archer to take granddaughter for a ride and the grass was a little long for me so I only landed once. How is your 40 hrs coming. Any suprises-good ones?

How's the checkout going? I think I am going to attend the seminars FRiday as engines and paint are coming up.

You obviously did a great job. Hope the plane flies exactly as you expect.

Mike, I am from over in Lincoln and starting the wings on a 750. My kids and grandkids live in Rushville and I would like to see your project some time if that is something you would want to do.
