Prop spacer?

Hi.I am building a Cruzer with a 4th generation Jabiru motor.  I am also installing a Whirldwind 2 blade prop,( model GA-J2B) which is no longer in production.  The Whirlwind installation manual instructs to bolt the prop hub to the flange or spacer if a spacer is required.I cannot find anything from Zenith nor Jabiru regarding mounting the prop on a Jabiru motor.  I have no idea if a spacer is required or not. I’m guessing not, but this isn’t something one should guess at…..Anyone out there…See More

Jabiru Gen 4 manifold pressure?

Hi.  I am trying to figure out the wiring for the Dynon sensors on my Gen 4 Jabiru 3300.  I am not familiar with the engine, I have always had Lycoming or Continental.I have been trying to figure out where to plumb the Dynon MAP (manifold air pressure) sensor and which wires from the EMS Dynon wants me to use.  In slogging through Dynons 500+ page manual, they call out map sensor wires from the EMS for Continental, Lycoming, Rotax, but not for the Jabiru 3300.  Are there no map sensor options…See More

Rotec alternator on gen 4 Jabiru

Has anyone attempted putting a Rotec alternator on a gen 4 Jabiru?  I recently purchased an unfinished kit with a 4th generation Jabiru engine. The purchase came with a new Rotec alternator update kit. I started to mount it on the engine but became clear that the kit, as it is, will not work.  The gen 4 alternator mount has integral posts, or standoffs, that keep the mounting bracket (spider) the correct distance from the engine. The Rotec bracket is flat, and without some spacers or standoffs…See More

I'll base a response on what I saw in the email. 1. It doesn't have to be out on the underside of the wing very far, so the wiring run would be minimal.

2. I doubt the engine exhaust will have much effect as far back on the fuselage as you're proposing.

3. I don't see enough room on the fuselage under the wing to mount it that would keep it out of the sun. That would also place the back side of the sensor inside the cabin, which can affect the readings.

If you're absolutely dead set on not mounting it on the underside of the wing, your rear fuselage idea is probably your best bet. I'd put it as far back as possible, just to be safe. You might want to post this question on the Dynon forums (https://forum.flydynon.com). Someone over there may have already done something like this.

I test flew the 601 while i was at the rudder workshop, it had a jabiru 3300 installed.  The 601 flew quite a bit like the coupe.  it was very responsive and smooth flying.  It handled well at 100 and the 128 mph that was our  cruise speed on the demo flight.  the airplane was more comfortable than i expected.  Like you i  was looking for a light sport at the 130 + cruise, and the kit seemed to be a straight forward build.  I talked to a number of people and all were satisfied with the factory support.  I have worked on my coupe with the A&P that does my annual, but have never built one before so the support issues was a factor for me. I also have a friend that was building a 601XL... he has the fuse finished but had to go back and do the wing upgrade, he knew several others who built and were flying the 601 so he was a big influence on my decision. I guess the price also fell more in line with what i was confortable with and gave me things i was looking for in a plane. Main reason for giving up the coupe, is that mine is not light sport and i want the repairman certificate so i can do my own maintenance.  Since i was flying a 2 place plane seemed like i might as well go light sport when i built, thinking that may be a good selling factor when the time comes i need to let it go.
