Hi all My name is Adrian Lewer. I have been flying RAA (recreational Aviation) aircraft since 2010 and recently acquired my very own aircraft a Zenith Zodiac CH 601 HD Model. the aircraft in question has a chequered past and hopefully I can restore her to her former flying glory. in a nutshell the 3rd owner had a nose gear failure which was caused by poor maintenance by the second owner. I salvaged the A/C from the insurance company and have immediately begun my work. as soon as I figure out how to post pics I will go crazy.

She was powered by a 303.1 hour old Rotax 80 HP A model certified but I will be re powering her with a subaru EA-81 model engine which I have aquired from a fellow flyer here who is upgrading to ( I think its the EA or EJ 22 ?)

I am hoping to gain as much info from this site and members so I can successfully complete my project and more importantly do so safely.

Yep... I will either scratch build a 650 or I will scratch build a Rand KR2-S with retractable U/C and use the CSU fro the subie on that... might do both yet who knows.....

Hi Phil, The Rotax is in perfect order, I had it looked at and it has been given a clean bill of health and has been "re certified" the only reason I am going the road of the subie is I intend to repair the aircraft properly and fly it for a while with the intention of selling it and building something else. the Rotax is earmarked for that and the subie was the right price....

Hi Adrian
Is the rotax in need of much repair? The reason that I ask is that it is a much lighter and a better suited engine. There is certainly nothing wrong with the Suby conversions in fact they are widely used. The only drawback is the weight of the engine. I guess it all depends upon what your empty and mtow are. You look like you are fairly light yourself so you have that in your favour.

Got distracted and had a look at your photos. It doesn't look to bad.
