Wind broke the tie downs and lodged the right wing tip in the rafters along with the rudder. Bent the nose gear also. Lens off the strobe/pos light is gone.

Straps broke, not sure if chains would have done more or less damage. As it was, I had no structural damage, just sheet metal.

Jeff,

Did the webing fail? or the hook unhook from the tie down ring? The problem with chain is there is no "give". The shock loading placed on the tie down rings and aircraft structure can cause a failure (or much damage) also. (I work for a chain manufacturer).

My lesson learned in to never trust ratchet straps if chains are available.

Than is unfortunate. What did you have for tie downs and what actually failed?  Maybe something for the rest of us to learn??
