Bob, do you have fuel lines running through the cockpit? If you do, then essentially you are carrying all the fuel in your wing tanks in the cockpit. It is this reasoning that led me to use braided stainless fuel lines. As to the header tank, it is pretty stout. It's made from .063 and the end seams are reinforced. I would never locate the tank down low (as I have seen done) where a nose gear collapse could take it, or the plumbing out. But up high where I have it is, I believe, a pretty safe location. I think it would take a very serious impact to bust it open.

I was curious... I have leading edge tanks in my CH601HD and am looking at removing the (behind panel) 60 litre header tank. I really hate fuel in the cockpit.
