One week from cardboard prototype to finished, painted and installed. Went flying for about an hour in bumpy weather today and the armrest made flying noticably less fatiguing. Very happy with the end result.

Hey Doug, I got it from a local auto uphosltery shop...never measured the thickness.  A close guess would be approx 1.5 inches.  The base is a piece of 3/4 inch pine board.

I'm thinking of adding that feature, just need to figure out best place for it.  Maybe a hinged foldout of some sort that extends into the right seat area...

Wow, that turned out nice! Now you're going to want to build a coffee cup holder insert for the tray. I did that with mine and really enjoy my Tim Hortons on those early morning flights and having a bottle of water handy later in the day when it is hot.
