My wife is getting ready to build the seats and sew seat covers for our 601.  But she doesn't know where to get the materials?  Except for denim from the local WalMart.  Does anybody have recommendations on seat building materials?  Covering materials in cloth or leather or plastic?  Cushions?  She needs sources for this stuff too.  Thanks.

I really like the allante vinyl.  I got mine from a local source Dallas TX.  Larry Daniels Company or something similar.

Heres a link I found when I googled it.  Ultraleather is good stuff too, but it seems like your paying for name more than the quality.  Allante is a good balance.

Check out Gary'supholstery.com on the net.

If you drive down the road and your car catches fire, you pull off to the side of the road and get out immediately. In an airplane, you have no choice but to stay aboard for quite some time while you find a place to land and get her set down and stopped. Get your aircraft upholstery materials from aircraft supply sources. Only get FAA approved fire retardant foams and fabrics, leathers, naugahide, whatever. The stuff costs more (because of the fire retardant nature of the materials) but you could be very grateful to not be sitting on a flammable seat or next to a flammable side panel someday. My two cents..........

Denim is cotton and burns quite easily and vigerously. So does most department store seat foams. Ditto for most synthetic fabrics -- nylon, polyester, etc. You need to consider both the flames (they hurt) and the fumes (they are poison, plus the fumes can blind you) and therefore, in my not so humble opinion, you need to pop for proper fire retardant materials.

Similar logic prevents me from using automotive wire in planes, even though homebuilders do it frequently to save money. The insulation in car wires gives off poisonous fumes when it burns. Aircraft grade Tefzel insulated wire does not produce poisons when it burns, and it does not burn until much higher temps. Again, you cannot just pull off and get out if there is an electrical fire, you have to stay in the airplane.
