I have been challenged by a LSA Manufacturer to find 6 owners of the Jabiru 3300 with over 500 hours who are satisfied with their engine choice! This company has used and is very familiar with the 3300. These guys are friends of mine & when I suggested I might choose a Corvair or Jabiru, I was given the challenge.

Remember, 3300 with 500 hours or more and still happy about the engine choice.
Now I'm really curious not to mention more ?????? about an engine.

Thanks for participating in this fun survey!

The Demo Zodiac @ Mexico, Mo has 1400 hrs on it w/ no overhaul. I only have 420 currently...........
By the way, not all 3300 Jabirus are the same. Go to Jabiru Aus website and read about it............
The Jabiru is a better choice than the Corvair, but I fly Rotax....as does the 4 other LSA aircraft at out small field.
Johnathan Porter flys over the jungles of Ghana, ask him what engine carries his soul into deepest darkest worlds.
Jabiru has made tremendous improvements and is a very good product priced cheaper than Rotax....but most of their R&D work was done on the backs (and wallets) of previous engine model owners. Rotax 912 series engines are running well in excess of the 2000 hr TBO...500 hrs is not even broke-in !
I have flown many thousands of hours in over 50 types on three continents, and experienced four engine failures. All four were Jabirus. Three at low level in the first 100 hours of a J2200. My reasons are a little different. 1. I fly in hot climates. 2. I dont always have access to higher quality fuels.

All engines have plus and minus points. All engines have those who love them, and those who loathe them. The bottom line is YOU have to be confident of the engine in your bird. After my experiences, I am not comfortable with Jabiru anywhere - but I still fly with a Jab when outside my normal flying areas. Some people in Nigeria tried a J3300 and had problems in the first 100 hours. To my knowledge hot climate, and limit fuel quality are not good combinations for the Jabiru.

Do not purchase an engine because your friend says it is good - find out the climatic and fuel combinations too - and the mission types (short hops, circuits, long trip, altitudes flown, etc) as well as prop choice and pitch - in the right combinations the Jab may come out tops.... but you are the one behind the whirly thing up front....

Choose well and fly safely for many happy hours aloft, without sudden silence!
