Has anyone had any experience with a Franklin engine on a Stol 750? Are there motor mounts available and other parts? Model looking at is 4A-235 125 HP. Lawrence Anderson

Lawrence,

Am building a 750 and have installed a 90 hp Franklin. One of the 125 Franklins has the "same" or similar mounting pattern as an O-200 Continental. Zenith's O-200 mount may work if you have the right 125. Hope you are successful, since I would like to see more Franklins.

I just saw this video from a few days ago:

Seems like Franklin is back in business again!

The guy says that their Franklin 235 would be a drop in replacement for an O-200 with a similar weight but 125 hp.

Pretty exciting, I like the engine's long track record, heard many good things about the Franklin engines and will certainly keep an eye on them. I really hope that the entire O-200 firewall forward kit is compatible with the Franklin.

Just noticed this thread. I just noticed this thread.  I fly behind a 4A-235-B31 since Sept 2016.   While the mount points spacing is the same as the Continental O-200, i am not sure it will fit well with a stock O-200 mount for the CH-601.

the B31 version with the spider manifold and deep oil tank use a lot of space vertically.  I fabricated a mount bringing the engine as high as possible,  seems the height of the prop flange relative to the mount is not the same as that of the o-200 also.

for the cowling, the stock o-200 cowling general shape is prettty good but a lot of additional work was needed (as I am not good with Fiberglass and I hate working that material  I spent 50 hours adapting the cowling I bought).   There are the modifications I needed to do:

- change the shape on the top to clear the upper engine mount points and the starter.

- reposition the carb air intake hole as it was too high

- extend the bottom of the cowling by over 2 inches to clear the carb heat box and oil pan.

My engine now works pretty well,  but it would be a lie to say it is a simple bolt on replacement for an o-200.
