Hello all,

I published this in the float forum initially, but then thought I might generate some responses here too

I hope to be finishing up the process of mounting my CH701 on amphibious floats this Winter season. Shortly I intend to post some more detailed pictures of the process/progress to date and some of the support equipment I plan to use in the future. Also looking for advice and lessons learned.

For the meantime, I am wondering about a couple of items:

1) Would any of you in this group that have a 701 or 750 mounted on the later style straight or 4 wheel amphibious floats (and are willing) please identify yourself. All help will be great, but obviously appreciated from those that actually did the initial installation work of rigging and determining strut lengths.

2) Initially, it would help me if I could get some rough dimensions of the strut lengths as shown in the picture below. Of course, the plans only provide the dimensions of the floats relative to the aircraft and not the lengths of these struts since they are certain to vary from plane to plane. I am just looking for rough lengths to help with deciding which struts I can cut from the raw streamlined tubing I am using.

Thanks in advance,

Walt Cannon

Hi Walt, Why don't you contact Zenair in Midland they are AFM and manufacture the Zenith and Full Lotis Floats. They can give you all the measurements and even supply the struts and fitting you need for CH701. Checkout there Website.

Thanks Wayne,

That is a good idea and since I am using their struts and end fittings, I have been in touch with them a couple of times and downloaded all the documents from the "builders" section of the web site.

They were able to provide some good general recommendations and guidance, but did not really have any available documentation or pictures as to how one might support the airplane while aligning it above the floats or any nominal "starting" strut lengths for the CH701 installation. All of the pictures in the latest rigging photo manual are on a non Zenith airplane with quite a different strut set-up.

I think I have a pretty solid plan in place...I hope to post some photos over the holidays to stimulate discussion and get some input from folks that have performed this task.

Hi Walt Do you know the approximate lengths of your Struts? for the A,B,and C? Im mounting my 701 on amphib floats and for my extrusions want aprox lengths to get. Thanks in advance!
