Elevator assembly
Hi, I'm new to the plane building. I just started a CH-750. I had a quick question and wanted to test out the website at the same time. I'm building the elevator. Section 75-TA-4, page 9 of the photo assembly manual. When I cleco the elevator nose skin, the spring in the metal causes a wave in the elevator rear skin, which is much more noticeble on the trim side (about 10-20 mm wave). I've insured that the nose skin is straight. Will this problem correct itself once I install the elevator trim tab channel 75T4-5. Strangely enough, it only creates a wave on the bottom side of the elevator rear skin. I was looking at a piper cherokee and noticed that the skin "pops" when you push on it in certain places. How can I illiminate this "popping" effect and how imperative is it? Thanks for any help!

Hi Joel, Just a couple of guesses, but you might try clecoing the middle of the nose skin working your way to the ends. You might also check for twist in the assembly. It could also be that the predrilled holes are slightly misaligned, but that is unlikely. Could you post a picture? It very well could correct itself when the channel is put in place. You will have some popping, it is unavoidable without thicker skin or more structure, both add weight. Hope this helps!

FWIW, I put the elevator trim tab channel in place (w/clecos) prior to placing the nose skins. Added rigidity to the elevator and I thought would allow for a better measure of any twist.
