I’m doing a builder’s assist on a 750 Cruzer. I’m approaching the point of painting and graphics / striping. I was referred to Aero Graphics in Colorado for striping options, but they only have 4 template choices in their system for the Zenith 750. Does anyone have recommendations of other companies that have vinyl graphic / striping templates for the Zenith 750?

Do you really have to prime the mating surfaces when assembling the aircraft if you're going to prime/paint the complete exterior? Or is priming primarily for coastal areas? The plane will be hangered in Indiana most of its life and will see an occasional outside tie down during summer months.

After completing my wings tanks and lights all checked. I still have the upper root end skins clecoed on. In an effort to paint the wings before installing I'd like to rivet the upper root skins on. Just curious if others found it better to wait to rivet those skins on after the wing install?

Hello All,

I will be starting my project in a few weeks. I am thinking that I will most likely polish my 650 but I'm not sure when the best time to start that process would be. Would it be best to:

-Wait until the entire aircraft is finished before polishing

-Polish each major section when that section is complete

-Polish parts prior to any assembly

Does anyone have any experience with such uncontrolled and un-ideal conditions?

On to the next step--paint!

I am now grappling with addressing paint and finish. Since I live in Tampa I (we, the aviation community here in Florida and other ocean-front states) are always grappling with corrosion. Since it took 10 yeasrs to build the plane I have some surface corrosion on the skin I have NOT seen any evidence of corrosion at the rivet holes and I applied CORTEC rather liberally or the mated pieces, so I think the biggest issue will be prepping the surfaces…

I have arranged to use an auto paint booth and I am lucky enough to have a painter with aviation painting experience, although I think he's strictly automotive at this time. What kind of product do I need to use to address/neutralize the surface corrosion? does the plane just need a good sanding with a very fine grit paper? (there is no pititng that I can see with the naked eye) or will it need to be chemically prepped as well?

And just to set the discussion parameters, polishing is NOT an option for me

Your Thoughts?

P.S. I appreciate all of the well-wishes after my first flight. It's heartwarming to know that we builders-all of us, really are not out here alone, even if it seems that way at times.
