I installed a single fogger nozzle wet nitrous kit that is really very simple in execution and all total weighs approx 20#. There are changeable jets at the nozzle to make it very customizable. Nitrous is NOT magic, you are simply adding more oxygen and fuel at the manifold to get a bigger oxygen / fuel charge - at FULL throttle ONLY. I got a great deal on a NOS 05130 Kit and the installation was easy because the fuel comes from the primer port on my gascolator. I just had to weld and tap a bung to the manifold above the carb. My fuel pump puts out about 7 psi. Doing the calculations, a 018 fuel jet and a 022 nitrous jet should boost approx 20hp. I will post more performance info when I get the chance to play. When I reset my timing, I noted that my tach was sig off compared to the timing light at high RPM. This was confirmed by a laser tach and needs to be fixed.
Has anyone used an inductive pickup from the ignition system on a WW Corvair to drive the rpm function on an MGL engine monitor? Or other rpm pickups that work the MGL products? I am aware of the past problems with MGL and Corvairs, but assuming that is using a hard wire attachment.

I came across this 2008 Kitplanes article by Rick Lindstrom, https://www.kitplanes.com/mgl-avionics-stratomaster-maxi-single-e1/, where he indicates he made such a pickup in an older MGL EMS.

…So I ended up making an inductive pick-up out of a coil of safety wire that wrapped around the ignition coils primary lead and produced a nice 5-volt pulse with each spark. This drove the tach input on the E1 nicely.

I would like to have an EMS in my Zenith 750 but don’t want to redo the panel. The current MGL Vega EMS-1 will fit in a 2 ¼” hole, so no surgery is needed. MGL has a LOG-1 instrument that can record the data. I currently have the ring gear tooth counter which works fine, but isn’t compatible with the EMS-1. An inductive pickup would seem to do the job.

https://www.parts4aircraft.com/mgl-avionics-vega-ems-1-engine-monitor

https://www.parts4aircraft.com/mgl-avionics-log-1-data-logger-for-blaze-and-vega

I eventually want to redo the panel, but for now I think this system will do what I want without spending $3-5,000 and redoing the panel to contain a larger display. I now just have round gauges, and the CHT and EGT, especially, aren’t very easy to read.

Thanks for any guidance!

I mounted my Corvair engine mount and engine but it looks as if it pitches forward a great deal. Can someone tell me how the engine level is to the level of the cabin frame. In other words if the cabin frame is level what if the angle of the engine? Or a picture from the side showing the engine level in relationship to the cabin. Thanks in advance.

I have a starter that was purchased from William Wynn. It is the 2401 model (not the 2400L) and has never been installed. I also have a NAS3 Stromberg carb PN 380231-1 that was overhauled WW's preferred supplier, D&G Supply. This carb has not been installed either "0" hrs since overhauled. They get $850 for one if you don't have a core! These items were purchased from a gentleman that is unable to complete his airplane. I will take $600 ea. or $1,000 for the pair.

Searching for an engine!

After nearly 20 years of hoping/stolen plans, tools, and equipment, my wife and I are beginning a restart of our 650 project. Today we should receive two Fly Corvair manuals on Disassembly and Installation so the search now begins in earnest to find a suitable Corvair for conversion.

Don't know where to start so any suggestions would be extremely welcome.

We just moved to Clarksville, TN

He promised parts that he never delivered (manifolds, carb, oil cooler) and as a present for my persistence, they sent me this defective manifold without my 120 HP Spyder engine intake.
