My 701 is completed however, I am looking for a drawing for the elevator cable modification. When I adjusted the elevator cable tension to 20 # and consistent with what other builders have experincened an excessive cable tension when the control stick was full right.
Any help with some installations details would be appriciated

John,

Not sure what drawing you are referencing?

I adjusted cable tension until I had a decent balance between left and right control stick resistance, then used a bungee cord to ensure no interference between control cables as per the factory controls drawing. There’s no way to completely eliminate the difference in resistance between left and right without having the cables too slack, but a good compromise can be attained.  I am not overly concerned about what a tensiometer indicates, rather can I achieve the flight control deflections required, and are the cables free from interference.

Are you asking about the divorced elevator bell crank?  The only way to set tension on the  unmodified elevator control is what Jim described.

Dave

I do not believe so on the divorced bell crank, back in May -June 2010 Zenair news had a elevator cable modification. From the articel a fellow by the name of Seb Dewhurst got approval from the manufacturer. The articel talkes in detail about aluminum angles riveted to the bottom of the fuselage behind the access opening and with a pully. There were some photo's in the articel. I was looking for some detail but have not been able to get any sketches or detail from Zenair or Seth. This modification seems to solve the cable tension issue.

My plane is not yet finished , but I was not impress with the design of the elevator control so I am modifying it to make it divorced. I looked at two designs on youtube and put my own spin on it. It is turning out really well , I am almost finished with the modification which keeps the stock placement so my cables may be retained. If you are interested contact me at dnsalldredge@gmail.com   FWIW my motto is KISS (keep it simple)

Hope this applies.
