Here's an email I got from UL Power concerning the torquing of the alternator bolt.

Thank you for contacting us again.
Wicks confirmed that they have these tools available. They were delivered to them in September and October.
Upon reading your mail, I have now asked them to mention them in their webshop.- which they promised to do.

I do have a remark about the alternator flange tool. I suppose you want to buy it because of the July service bulletin ?

After some serious R&D in collaboration with specialists in this field, we have to conclude that the left hand thread and Loctite have proven to be an almost bullet proof solution for this purpose. The required actions mentioned in the service bulletin and in the maintenance manuals might even have negative effect on safety. Although the instructions in the SB and maintenance are well explained, people might turn the bolt in the opposite direction, breaking the loctite seal and thus creating problems instead.
Up to now, no additional cases of a loosened alternator bolt were mentioned.
Therefore, the alternator bolt check will be removed in the next update of the maintenance manual.
So unless you need to replace the alternator, there is no need to buy the alternator flange tool.

Anybody want to buy an unused alternator bolt tool.  This was an expensive "well it really doesn't need retorqeing"

cheers,,,,,,  Lynn

Hey Lynn, will the tool work as a prop crank nut tool, maybe with a bit of modification?

Thanks for posting up Larry!  I'm on the UL mailing list and hope that UL disseminates this info to engine owners.

Hi David, No it is very different with a few extra pieces, guess I'll keep it in case I ever need to replace the alternator. This is the first and only complaint I've had with UL, I think it could have been handled in a far more timely fashion. Cheers,,,,, Lynn

OK, thanks Lynn!  I'm with you on UL...no real complaints and the support I've received so far has been great!  I have a cracked #3 cylinder on my 2011 UL350iS (no idea why) but once I get past this repair I think I'll have a great little engine!!  Dave...
