I have been building my Cruzer in the garage for the last 2 yrs. Finally, two weeks ago I moved it to the hangar to install the engine and wings. I picked up the engine at Zenith after Oshkosh in July. It has been stored in my garage for 6 mos and now ready to hang. On opening the box I discovered a bit of surface rust on the case and fins. This is a stupid question, I know, but what is the best way of removing it? Did others see any rust on their engines after some storage? I live in Houston so even with the crate closed up I'm sure the humidity played a part. Next, what method did others use in separating the crate from the engine? UL does a great job in crating the engine and it is difficult to knock down the sides so I am tempted to use a sabre saw and cut the sides off. I don't intend on salvaging the crate. Did anyone use an engine lift? These are very basic questions but this is one area I would like not to mess up. Oh, another point--Mark's videos on his engine installation are excellent and well worth watching. Hats off to Mark for sharing his experiences on videos. Another great source for me has been David Belieu, who recently completed his STOL with a UL350is engine. Thanks to both for their quality work and sharing spirit.

Disregard most of above. Feel really embarrassed about uncrating the engine. My partner was already at the hangar and had already taken the crate apart. Seems the bayonet fittings that held the top on also held the bottom on. Dean said it was very simple to remove. So much for my brilliance! Also, simply rubbed some WD40 on the surface rust and off it came. Since the engine was uncrated was able to install the engine mount and it is now ready to lift on to the Cruzer.
