A couple of days ago, Garmin announced an updated G3X system which has more capability and an overall lower cost than before.  I'm really impressed with what they have done.  Here are a few of my observations:

1. A really spiffy new integrated autopilot.  Cost is $750 per servo. They offer a nice optional control unit which taps in to a few really nice additional features.

2. More flexible installation options because they split the AHARS/Engine interface module into two separate, smaller units.

3. Angle of Attack can now be integrated into the system.

4. Lower cost prices this system right in line with Dynon's Skyview system.  

No, I'm not on the Garmin payroll.  I recently got the G3X for my 750 and I am so impressed with the quality of the system.  Just want to share for those who had not heard this news yet.

Thanks Aaron,

Since you have already done all the thinking on this can I ask a couple questions? Whith the EMS as part of this mfd what other instruments are required besides the raido? Seems like its almost cheaper than the price of a combined panel. I noticed you have a battery backup and a avionics tray where did you come up with the design ideas for this? I've installed avionics before some with detailed instructions some not (I don't like shooting from the hip). Thanks for your time and if you can offer any advice I'd love to hear it

The only thing you need other than a radio is a transponder. I bought the GTX 23 ES which mounts remotely and is controlled right through the G3X.

I chose the backup battery from TCW Tech because its designed to work well with an EFIS system and the Vertical Power VPX that I have. It would work fine with a regular circuit breaker setup too. It keeps the screens from rebooting upon engine start or when backup power kicks in.

I just sort of figured out the avionics rack setup on my own after a bunch of trial and error. It's basically .063 3/4" L angle made into three fore-aft rails and two side-to-side rails. The fore-aft rails connect to the lower flange on the firewall and to the steel tube on the bottom of the panel. I have three of those. Then I just have two long angle pieces running left to right attached to the underside of those three rails. That's where I have the transponder, VPX, AHARS and dimmer circuit mounted. You could mount pretty much anything to a setup like this. It's very flexible. I'd be happy to get you better pictures and specifics on exactly what I did if you'd like.

The awesome thing about Garmin is their installation manuals are absolutely incredible. I think the G3X install manual is nearly 300 pages. That doesn't speak to it being difficult to install. It's just extremely detailed. Any information you could ever want is in there. I have not even thought about needing to call anyone at Garmin for install support.
