For those of us with O-200's in Zenith airframes, I'm just curious: Did you mount your alternator on the vacuum pump pad or on the accessory case?  And you know why I'm asking....(drive gear).

On mine - it's on the back of the engine on the accessory case. I have never seen one on the Vaccum Pump pad.

Carl, on the engine I sold it was on the accessory case.  The gear inside the vacuum pad was left intact in case an additional gear driven alternator was added.

I'd just as soon NOT have to purchase the $800 TCM replacement gear since my existing gear is the old-must-be-replaced version.

I used the B&C SD-8 Alternator mounted on the vacuum pump pad. My continuous electrical load is 3 amps. The battery stays fully charged, even though most of my flights are .5 to 1 hour long, so I am happy with this choice. I did have to fabricate a bump in the Zenair supplied lower cowling to accommodate the Alternator.

Aha! Good to know. I'm ok with fiberglass mods, and have done them in the past on other builds. Still, good to know.  Thanks for the input.
