Hi. first time poster. CH 750

My son Joel and I have been working for 7 years on our plane and are on the final steps to finishing

the plane.

We have run into a problem on adjusting the linkage from the control stick to the flaperons.

The most we can get is 10 degrees up and down on the flaperons . The specs call for 13 degrees up and down.  We have checked all the parts and the assembly with the drawings several times.

Does anyone have any suggestions how to fix this problem?

any possibility you have the flaperon bell crank on wrong way around? the long arm is fastened to the vertical tube.

Yes I checked that . Everything is according to the plans. Also 2 of us have checked everything in case

 one of us goofed up.

Thanks

Hey Ken,

It’s really cool to hear you and your son are working on a project like this together.  I had a similar issue with my 750 when I bought it from the original builder. I found that the brackets and torque tube were installed incorrectly. This led to the tabs on the tube to stop on the bolt heads. All of my pictures of this got erased and so I can’t share them.  Other than the limited movement it all looked like a correct installation.  So that’s my only suggestion.  I hope you find this isn’t the issue, it was no fun to fix. Take care

Although I'm a huge fan of the HomeBuilt HELP DVD videos, unfortunately, the 750 video depicted the installation as Todd describes, which is in error - as I recall, the transverse torque tube bearing blocks were installed upside-down.  The bolt heads were NOT to act as stops and the tabs should clear the bolt heads.  I don't know if this was corrected in later videos or not.

This is great information.

Thanks

Hi Todd

Thanks for the reply. I want to check it out but I'm stuck in lock down 100 km from the plane for another

couple of weeks at least. My son will check it out. It sounds promising.

Thanks

Ken

Just occurred to me: you do have the aileron control stops installed per drawing 75-ZA-7?  If they are not adjusted properly, this will limit your flaperon/aileron travel.  What I did was set the deflections per spec at the flaperon, and then adjust the stops to match.  Some have slotted the stops to make them adjustable, but I painted the ends of the bolts with grease paint, touched the stop to the bolts, and drilled the corresponding holes.  I got lucky and got it nearly perfect the first try - had to give one of the stops just a few file strokes to dial it in.  Worked great!
