UL Power has released a new service bulletin. Calls for checking the torque on bolt holding altinator on. The bulletin is available on UL Power web page. Select your engine type and follow until you get tabs with manuals, specs, and bulletins.  Roughly 206 Ft pounds on the 350i. Left hand threads. Anybody know the size of socket required? Would be nice to know before taking things apart.  It applies to all engines and should be performed at next maintenance.

Was notified of bulletin via email from factory. Thought it was posiqtive customer service.

If you have not complied with prior bulletin on altinator fan replacement, I strongly suggest that you do. My suggestion is based on experience.

Thanks for the heads up Ralph.  I have a newer 350i (170901) and I have not received any emails from UL but I may be on the bottom of their list to notify.  That being said, I have reviewed the bulletin and it is a straight-forward procedure to check the torque but where are we supposed to get the Alternator tool T063002?  It appears from the pictures at least that you must have this tool to be able to accomplish this check.  I sent note to UL about this and am waiting on reply.

There may be some confusion in language. The email states compliance at next service however service manual revision 10 list this check at 200hrs of operation time. If anyone has already contacted them for clarification please post the answer. Also, I notified them on the interference issues some of us have had with the oil return line and engine mount  washers and they are checking into it.

I think the socket size is 30mm

thank you

Jerold, you sound like you have checked yours. Is this correct?  If so, did you use the listed alternator tool?

According to UL Power, the alternator tool T063002 will be available from Wicks Aircraft.  So I guess we will have to buy this tool if we want to check the torque on this bolt unless someone comes up with a better method.

Larry, I remembered seeing the T063002 part a while back so I checked my pile of "stuff that I didn't necessarily have a use for" and sure enough found the T063002 part in the pile.  I guess it shipped with my engine.

In the meantime, I still need to comply with Service Bulletin 2015-01 and replace the alternator fan with E052505C so I can do both of these Bulletins at the same time.

Does your tool look like the one in the picture on the service bulletin?  If it does, I don't have anything that looks like that.  I guess I can check my UL Power parts list that came with my engine and see if they included it and I did not recognize it.  However, I am very certain the only spare part I have left over is the bracket that was on the engine and a hat.  I will check with UL Power folks and see if they initially shipped these out or they just like you more than they like me.  Did everyone else but me get this tool?  Fortunately my engine was assembled after the 2015-01 bulletin came out.

I received a tool that is similar to the one in the picture. Does not have the holes for the 4 small bolts called for in the service bulletin. Attempts to use it anyway resulted in several bent bolts and a fair amount of frustration.

Doug, if you are running your engine I strongly suggest that you do not wait to replace your alternator fan. Yesterday would have been a good day to replace it in my humble opinion...take it from someone who had their's come apart during flight, with only 50 hours on engine, 500 miles from home. When it comes apart, it does it with gusto. The good news is that mine came apart over an airfield!
