Yes, the 601HD can be interesting to land. Glad it is the HD as in heavy duty-- as I have had some carrier landings. I would like to see your project. We had one CH701 at KSFF and I had a chance to fly that plane prior to buying the Zodiac. I use Experimental 16BZ call sign as when I use Zodiac, they think Kodiak! I have about 20 or so hours on the plane and we are becoming friends!
I didn't powder coat anything, just primer and paint. I can't think of any reason you shouldn't powder coat the steal components if you wish. Yes, you should protect the steel parts. My torque tubes and other "unseen" steel components only have primer on them.
Congratulations! Hope to see some updates on you progress through the build. I'll be starting the tail kit when it arrives. I think the fusealage kit will be the next section I order. Was it a long wait for the fusealage?

Thanks, Tom. We have taxied the high school plane and are just waiting on FSDO to set up inspection so we can fly it.
Stop by our hangar at SZT some time.
We would like to see and hear about your project.
